Historic Riyadh and Government Palace Area

The Government Palace area, currently Al Deerah district, represents the old heart of Riyadh and is hundreds of years old. It includes Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque (the Grand Mosque), established in 1745 CE, Al Masmak Palace, established in 1895 CE, Thumairi Street, which is over 100 years old, remnants of old Riyadh walls and towers, Al Safat Clock, Justice Square, and other old historical landmarks. The area around the Government Palace, today the Emirate of Riyadh Province, is also surrounded by traditional markets that are over 200 years old, such as Al Muaiqiliyah Market, Souqah (Hallat Al Ajnab), Haraj Ibn Qasim, Ushaiger Market, and Al Zal Market near the recently renovated historic Al Daho district, close to the new train station in the Government Palace area.
